Facebook Connect

Facebook Connect is yet another advantage given by Facebook to not only other web pages and not only the Facebook users, but to the both parties. Facebook Connect can be taken as an additional service based on the theme of Facebook i.e., to connect people to enable them to communicate, no matter where they are.

The origin of Facebook Connect came from its first edition, Facebook Api. Facebook Api was introduced in August 2006 by Facebook. This feature advantaged users to share their information with the applications and websites (third party) of their choice. The idea was to help Facebook users to use third party websites and applications and connect with Facebook information and vice versa. This information included the basic information from profile, photos, friends or any other sort according to the need of the website or application. Since this idea omitted the previous ideas of entering the forms with the same information again and again, it was highly appreciated by all and not so long after the introduction of the Facebook Api, companies in large number applied these APIs.

Later in May 2007, www.facebook.com launched Facebook Platform which is also based on the Facebook Api introduced above. Facebook Platform as the name suggests provided a special platform for the developers from across the world. Developers who are can build Social Applications within Facebook for the Facebook users participated from all over the world. In not much time, Facebook recorded the participation of more than 350,000 developers from 225 countries signing up and developing rich social applications for Facebook. Expected result: Facebook users highly appreciated and accepted this grand service by Facebook.

Finally, the last extension or the latest version on Facebook Platform, Facebook Connect was announced in May 2008. The name Facebook Connect again clarifies its purpose which is to help Facebook users connect with their Facebook information or personal details in any site where Facebook Connect Api is applied. With the help of Facebook Connect, it has been easier for third party websites to employ the features of Facebook Platform on one hand. On the other hand, Facebook users are capable of using their one unique true identity i.e., the identity of Facebook, while connecting with any site. Moreover, they can share and stay updated about the similar activities of their friends who are being benefitted with Facebook Connect.

Facebook users are prompted to connect via their Facebook profile (an alternative to classic login option) by the website they are visiting (the site must have been using Facebook Connect) via a Facebook Connect Button. This provides an opportunity to the Facebook Users to take their Facebook profile information, friends and privacy options to their favorite sites. Be it another social network like twitter(you can connect twitter to Facebook using Facebook Connect) Users can comment, like or share the activities they take part in. However, a pop-up gives an option to share those activities and its completely in the hands of the user to either share it or not. In any website where a Facebook User is connected via Facebook Connect, s/he can connect with his friends and view their activities at that particular site too.
