Three years ago, in September, 2009, considering the aspects of Facebook login and it’s users, Facebook had introduced Facebook Lite. In August the same year, there was an accidental leak of Facebook Lite within United States of America. Due to which Facebook officially launched, Facebook Lite on early September, before the expected official launch of the new Facebook login platform. As Facebook had stated, the motivation behind the introduction of Facebook lite login, was to facilitate the users to login Facebook in a much more quicker way. Officially Facebook mentioned that many countries, where it has a lot of users, like India, are short of high bandwidth internet. With the launch of Facebook Lite, people will now be able to access their best social networking site faster without having to come across the unnecessary stuffs that consumes more time to load.

Facebook Lite has few features that cause the page to load slowly, like apps, ads, etc. were cut down. The Facebook Lite login page looks more simplified or say light, as the name Facebook Lite itself advocates. For Facebook users with slow internet connection, this advancement and a new platform of login to facebook is proving to be a boon. Facebook, while introducing this advancement, had said that people are likely to keep using Facebook lite, instead of the original Facebook login page, once they begin using it. Facebook Lite consist of the basic and important features like Messaging, Profile, Updates and Events are highlighted. Controversially, it was much similar to the challenger social networking site Twitter. To use Facebook Lite login, one would have to go to www.lite.facebook.com and the page would direct you to the lighter version of Facebook where slower internet would not be much for a hitch. Though, Facebook Lite was preferred by most of the users, including the ones with faster internet, there were some who were disappointed with Facebook Lite page. Not finding their apps and gizmo appearance like before; but for them the original Facebook was always on.

On 20^th April the next year, Facebook published an announcement:

“Thanks to everyone who tried out Facebook Lite. We’re no longer supporting it, but learned a lot from the test of a slimmed-down site. If you used Lite, you’ll now be taken to the main site Facebook.com.”

So this was an end to a year old Facebook Lite by Facebook without a justifiable reason published. As it was from the beginning, the appearance and features of Facebook Lite was much similar to those of the Twitter.  So maybe it was the reason or as most of the critics concluded Facebook Loginwas supposed to be better and popular than its lighter version, which apparently was not going to happen without killing the latter version. Be it any cause, Facebook Lite Login now, is not available since 20^th April, 2010 and the page www.lite.facebook.com now directs to the original Facebook homepage.
